Letter U Week April 15-19th & Letter V Week April 22nd-26th

Letter U Week

Letter U is for Unicorn, Up, Ukelele, Umbrella and Utah.  On Monday, we learned all about the letter U uppercase and  lowercase, its sound and of course the Letter Song U.

Its also Butterfly week and for our food experience we made goldfish/teddy graham butterflies.

Here is our letter U alphabet page for our end of the year alphabet book.  Letter U is for Umbrella.

We painted butterflies with watercolors.  This one was done by Miss Heidi.  The childrens butterflies were beautiful too-I just forgot to take a picture.

Letter V is for Vase, Vacuum, Vine, Vegetables, Valetine & Vest. We learned how to recognize uppercase & lowercase, sang its song and learned its sound...VVVVVVVVVVV.

V is for Van, another alphabet page for our book.  We are almost done.  These alphabet books are awesome when they are done at the end of the year.

For farm week we talked about all the animals we would find on a farm.  What foods we get from the animals? Milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, eggs, beef, ham & bacon, etc...So we made our own butter.

Heavy Cream in a baby food jar with a pinch of salt and a marble. Shake, shake, shake some more. When you can't hear the marble, keep on shaking. Then when its watery and you can see a yellow ball of butter in the middle you are done. We ate homemade butter on Rolls. YUM!

These are the books we read for farm week.

We planted some seeds in a baggie, with a wet paper towel.  We can already see them sprouting.

On Friday, we were lucky because we got to go to Gabe's Uncles Farm.  We saw a peacock, a cow,

a turkey, a dog, a cat, fish and

baby bunnies.  We also got to bottlefeed baby goats.

Also this week we walked across the street and fed the horses apples and carrots.
We checked out letter U & V on starfall.com
We checked the letter U & V out on youtube sesame street letter videos.
We had wonderful snacks like: chocolate muffins, fruit strips, fruit snacks, pretzels, juice boxes, capri suns and string cheese.  We seriously have the best snacks, ever!
We played games that helped us sort and graph.
It was a super week.
Next week, is the letter W, plants & planting, and measurement.  Should be a ball! See you then.
Thanks, Miss Heidi

Letter T Week April 8th-12th

Letter T Week

Letter T poster.  Letter T is for Tiger, Turtle, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Tooth, Ten, Truck and Tinker Bell.  We learned all about the Letter T everyday, we sang its song, practiced its sound, learned how to write uppercase and lowercase, as well has recognizing it.

It was also a new month. The month of April is upon us, so we made water color umbrellas with raindrops for our classroom bulletin boards.  We learned a new April song and said goodbye to March.

This week was also all about the Number 10.  We counted to 10, sang our counting song and finally sang to number 10, watched a sesame street youtube video on the number 10, practiced writing the number 10 and recognizing it as well.

It was also Dental Hygene week here at Preschool.  Since T is for Teeth.  And look what Mr. M brought to share with all of his friends..tooth necklaces.  These were a hit.  We dressed up some friends with a white crown on their head (crown of the tooth), a pink blanket wrapped around their body (our gums in our mouth) and our legs represented the tooths roots.  We sang lots of tooth songs about, missing teeth, teeth that hurt (cavity), how the dentist help and how to brush our teeth.

We made an art project with one of our songs on the back to help us remember all we learned about our teeth and how to take care of them. Believe me, when I say there was a lot of talk about the Tooth Fairy.  We even watched a few minutes of the movie "Rise of the Guardians", with the Tooth Fairy in it.  All the kids are super excited to loose a tooth and get a visit from the Tooth Fairy.

This is one of the games we played.  We had lima beans one side was painted white, one side was painted black.  We rolled the lima beans and counted how many Healthy Teeth we had (White teeth), then we got to move that many spaces.  Who ever reached the end first, was the winner.  We talked a lot about what kinds of food our healty for our teeth and what kinds of foods arent very good for our teeth.  The children were really into learning about their teeth.  It was exciting.

Here are the books we read this week; "The Tooth Book", "The Bearenstein Bears visit the Dentist", and "Julia and Her Wiggly Tooth".

We also made our letter T alphabet page, we made pink playdough- and played another tooth game with it, had wonderful snacks like-cinnamon rolls with fruit, teddy grahams, cheese, triscuits, fruit cups and juice boxes.  Thank you for all the wonderful snacks.  It was a great week, we were a little crazy since we had been out of school for a week of Spring Break, but it was wonderful to be back together. Next week is the Letter U, Sorting and Butterflies! Oh and Class Pictures on Friday, Yeah!
See You All Tomorrow,
Miss Heidi

March 25th-29th Letter S Week

This week at preschool was all about the letter S, its sound, how to write it and the Number 9.  It was also Easter Week and our Easter Party on Friday.

Our letter S poster.  The letter S is for scissors, strawberry, snowman, snowflake, stars, sunshine, smiley face, shamrocks and socks.

This is our Easter Chick.  I thought these were adorable.  I found the idea here:http://www.simpleasthatblog.com/2012/03/baby-chick-easter-craft.html

Here is our letter S alphabet page.  S is for strawberry.

For our science this week, we colored eggs; red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

On Wednesday, we made scrapbook paper eggs with lots of glue and scraps of paper.  I seriously love them.

On Friday for our party, we made a puppet craft.  The children chose from a bunny or a chick.
We also made a handprint bunny.  For snack we had jello jelly beans, bunny tails (donut holes), carrots, juice boxes, bunny crackers, grapes, fruit by the foot and a few other things.  We have the best time eating our snacks and learning at the same time.

These are the stories we read this week.  This week we also got to play bubbles outside and have a little treat hunt (not an easter egg hunt).  We played lots of hiding games this week.  We learned the number 9, we counted to nine, we sang our number song all the way to number 9.  It was a super fabulous week.
After Spring Break it is letter T week, number 10 week, and teeth week (dental hygiene)

I hope everyone enjoys their Spring Break!
Sincerely,
Miss Heidi
