February 20th-22nd, Presidents Week

Presidents Week

-We read a story about Abraham Lincoln and one about George Washington.

This is the Abraham Lincoln we made.  We learned that he liked to keep important papers in his hat.  We put a paper in his hat that had some facts about Abraham Lincoln.

We also had time for a science experiment on Sink or Float.  All the kids chose some items from the preschool.  We chose a marble, a wooden block, a popsicle stick, a polly pocket, a foam domino, a car, two pennies, a counting bear and a piece from our marble game.

Then we tested it out.  One by one the children chose an item and dropped it in the tub.  We asked questions like, Will it Sink? or Will it Float?  Then we talked about why things float and why things sink.

On Friday, we learned about our very first President George Washington.  We made a 3 point hat just like George Washington use to wear.  On our hats are some pictures of some of our National Symbols, like-the Eagle, the Liberty Bell, the White House, the American Flag and the Statue of Liberty.

And this is our gorgeous George Washington.  He also has some facts we learned about him on the back.
-We had some great snacks.
-We watched a few video clips on youtube about the Presidents.
-We played some games using pennies and quarters.
It was a very fun week learning about some of the past great Presidents and our National Symbols.

Next week my friends is all about the Letter O, its sound and how to write it.  The number 5. And Weather-all kinds-sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, thunder, hail, lightning, fog and rainbows.  So we will see you all then.  Have a safe and fun weekend,
Miss Heidi

Valentines' Week

This week we read "Valentines Day" and "Mouses First Valentines".
On Monday, We made our Valentines Sacks, we put our names on our sacks and we also put lots and lots of stickers.  I thought they turned out so creative and cute. Also on Monday, We sponge painted hearts on papers (Not pictured). We love painting. We also played a numbers game with hearts with numbers on them.

This is the craft we made during our Valentines Party.  We painted the popsicle sticks.  We glued the felt heart, then we glued the heart buttons, then we glued the bow.  So, very cute!

This is a game we played on Friday at our Party.  Its called broken hearts.  When its your turn you have to find the match and mend the broken heart.

We got to decorate heart shaped sugar cookies at our party.  One for now and one for later.  We also had chocolate dipped strawberries and strawberry milk.

Also this week, we sang a Valentine color song.
-We played heart stack-we had one minute to see how many heart candies we could stack on top of each other.
-We took our class Valentine Picture-tricky business getting them all to look and smile.
-We passed out our Valentines to our friends.

Leter N Week
February 4th-8th
On Monday, I introduced the Letter N and its sound.  We made our letter N Poster with all things N.  Letter N is for Nail, Nest, Nemo, Note, Newspaper, Nine, Nickel and Noodles. We sang our letter N song.  Let's sing hurray for "N".

For our science experiment we cooked spaghetti noodles and then soaked them in colored water.

The colors we chose were red, green and blue.

It worked, the noodles turned colors.
And then of course we wanted to eat them.  Wouldn't you?

On Wednesday, we learned how to write uppercase and lowercase N.  N is for necklace and this is our weekly alphabet page to go in our alphabet book.

For our food experience, we made homemade soft pretzels in the shape of Letter N.  Some children wanted the traditional knot.  We made the dough, let it rise, then we made the shape, let it rise, then we baked them and then we buttered and salted them.  All I can say is YUM!  The preschool smelled delicious all day long.

We read a I Spy Hearts Valentine book and made heart suncatchers with glitter, paper hearts, hugs and kisses confetti and heart sequins.

They sure look cute in the window.  They will look even better once the sun comes out! Sun, Where are you?

This week we also learned about the number four.  We sang songs about the number four.  We watched old Sesame Street videos on youtube about the number four.  We counted to four.  We watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Numbers.  We made a N necklace and our job was to count four cheerios then put a bead.  Count four cheerios put a bead.  No picture.  They were awesome though.

What a great week.  Next week is all about Valentines Day and Valentines Fun.  We will read Valentine stories, play Valentines Games, do Valentine Crafts and art projects.  Oh, and eat Valentine snacks and Party!  Our Valentines Party is on Wednesday.  And of course parents are welcome to come help out.  Our party will start around 10:00 a.m. Let me know so I have a count if you want to come.

Thanks for all the wonderful snacks, its our favorite part of the day.  I love my job! I love your children! I feel lucky, so thank you.
Sincerely,
Miss Heidi

January 28th -February 1st. Letter M Week

Letter M Week
M is for Mountains, Moon, Mouse, Monkey, M&M's, Mustache, Music and much much more.  What an incredibly fun week.  I think I say that a lot.  But seriously, we do have FUN! We also learned the number 3 this week.  Sadly no pictures of anything with the number 3.

On Monday, We made our Letter M Poster.

We sorted M&M's by color.

Then we counted how many M&M's of each color.

Then we made the letter M with our M&M's. And then, we ate the M&M's all gone.  I am guessing that was everyones favorite part.

On Wednesday, We made our Letter M alphabet page for our book.  M is for Monkey. And we practiced writing the letter M, uppercase and lowercase.

We played a name game.  The whole table was filled with letters.  Hundreds of letters. The kids had to find the letters in their name and then glue them to a paper.  Then they spelled their names out loud to me.

To go along with our stories this week, we talked a lot about mittens.  This project helps us learn our left hand and our right hand.

On Friday, we read the Mitten Tree and painted Mittens to help us remember the story.

We read the Mitten on Monday and Wednesday and did some fun activities to help us listen and remember what we had read.  Ask your child what animals were in the Mitten?  There was a Mole, Rabbit, Hedgehog, Badger, Owl, Fox, Bear and a Mouse.  This is a great story.

We had some super fun snacks this week like, granola bars, m&m's, gogurts, fruit roll ups, animal crackers and drinks.  Thanks you all for being on top of snack when it is your turn.

We also sang songs, learned about the number 3, checked out the letter M on starfall.com, painted hand print hearts for our Valentines Day Bulletin Board, said goodbye to January and Hello to February, gave our 2 friends that start with the letter M a cheer and so much more.  See you all next week for the letter N and the Number 4.
Sincerely,
Miss Heidi
