Letter R Week March 18th-22nd, 2013

Letter R Week

This week was all about the Letter R, its sound, how to write it and recognize uppercase and lowercase.  R is for rainbow, rake, rose, rain, ring, rocket, rabbit and rooster.

This week was also all about "Spring".  We talked about things that happen in Spring, like; baby animals are born, it rains a lot, the sun stays out longer, the flowers start to bloom and sprout, the trees grow buds and on and on.....This is our Popcorn Popping on the Apricot tree art project.

Here is our Letter R alphabet page for our alphabet book.  R is for Rabbit.

For our science experiment this week we wanted to see what would happen if we put celery stalks in colored water.  I later change the celery to full stalks with leaves.  We checked them today and all the leaves at the top of the stalks had changed color.  We learned that water travels through the stems and roots to give plants and trees water.

It was also Number 8 week.  This activity was great for recognition and counting.  We put the number stickers down the side first.  Then we put the other stickers next to the numbers, making sure to count the right number.  Easy and affective.

Here is another art project from this week, "Birds in the Nest".  I found this idea here:  /http://creativepreschoolresources.com/2012/04/27/spring-bird-craft/

For snack this week, we had granola bars, raisins, oranges, juice boxes, sprinkled animal crackers, grapes, nutri grain bars and probably a few other things.  As always, thank you for the wonderful snacks this week.  This is the birds nest food experience we had this week.  Fun and gooey.

Here are the books we read this week, all about Spring.

It was a fun week, we played games, sang songs, read books, learned the letter R, the number 8 and all about Spring.  Next week, is the all about the letter S, Number 9 and Easter Fun.  See you then, Miss Heidi

Letter Q Week and St. Patricks Day Party March 11th-15th

Letter Q Week and Celebrating St. Patrick's Day

On Monday, we made our letter Q poster with all things letter q.  Q is for question mark, queen, quilt, quail and quarter.  We also learned that q is almost always followed by U. We learned how to recognize uppercase and lowercase Q as well as its sound.

These are the Leprechauns we made with our hands. I'm obessed this year with things made from handprints, if you haven't noticed.

On Wednesday we made our alphabet page for our alphabet book.  Q is for quilt.  This page is awesome because it has a handprint from almost everyone in our class.

This is our amazing 12 layer rainbow jello that we made on Wednesday.  We only got through with 6 layers, so Miss Heidi finished it up and we ate it as part of our snack for our St. Patricks Day Party on Friday.

On Friday for our Party, we made paper Rainbows with cottonball clouds-these are simply adorable.  We wish we had a tiny little pot of gold to put at the end of it.
Along with our Rainbow jello on Friday, we also made and ate oreo's dipped in white chocolate and topped with green sprinkles.

These are the books we read about Leprechauns this week. Tricky lads they are!
We also, checked out the Letter Q on starfall.com
Sang Leprechaun songs
Worked on the number 7 recognition, writing it and counting to
They love the old sesame street video clips on the numbers (on youtube)
We ate fabulous snacks, like rainbows over goldfish and crackers with cheese and juice
We played outside, doing sidewalk chalk and having races.  So glad we can go outside and get our wintery wiggles out.
We played Leprechaun games like, Who took My Gold, Matching Uppercase and Lowercase Alphabet Letter Shamrocks, and Run Leprechaun Run.
Another fabulous week has come and gone.

Next week, is all about the Letter Rr, its sound and writing it.  Along with, the number 8. I'm also moving the Season Spring topic up to next week (since the first day of Spring is next week-Yeah!).  And then the following week we will learn the letter S, number 9 and All about Easter Fun with our Easter Party being on March 29th.

Thanks for all of you who helped out with snack this month and are taking a turn twice.  I couldn't do this without help, so thank you.  Just a reminder that April 1st-5th is Spring Break and there will be no school.  I will be scheduling class pictures at Target during the month of April too.
Have a sunny weekend,
Miss Heidi

I waddle like this and I waddle like that.
I am always dressed in black and white.
Don't you think I'm quite a sight.
