Letter R Week March 18th-22nd, 2013

Letter R Week

This week was all about the Letter R, its sound, how to write it and recognize uppercase and lowercase.  R is for rainbow, rake, rose, rain, ring, rocket, rabbit and rooster.

This week was also all about "Spring".  We talked about things that happen in Spring, like; baby animals are born, it rains a lot, the sun stays out longer, the flowers start to bloom and sprout, the trees grow buds and on and on.....This is our Popcorn Popping on the Apricot tree art project.

Here is our Letter R alphabet page for our alphabet book.  R is for Rabbit.

For our science experiment this week we wanted to see what would happen if we put celery stalks in colored water.  I later change the celery to full stalks with leaves.  We checked them today and all the leaves at the top of the stalks had changed color.  We learned that water travels through the stems and roots to give plants and trees water.

It was also Number 8 week.  This activity was great for recognition and counting.  We put the number stickers down the side first.  Then we put the other stickers next to the numbers, making sure to count the right number.  Easy and affective.

Here is another art project from this week, "Birds in the Nest".  I found this idea here:  /http://creativepreschoolresources.com/2012/04/27/spring-bird-craft/

For snack this week, we had granola bars, raisins, oranges, juice boxes, sprinkled animal crackers, grapes, nutri grain bars and probably a few other things.  As always, thank you for the wonderful snacks this week.  This is the birds nest food experience we had this week.  Fun and gooey.

Here are the books we read this week, all about Spring.

It was a fun week, we played games, sang songs, read books, learned the letter R, the number 8 and all about Spring.  Next week, is the all about the letter S, Number 9 and Easter Fun.  See you then, Miss Heidi
