Letter F Week/Color Green & Frogs

Letter F Week, The Color Green & Frogs
So here are a few quick highlights from the week. Our famous Letter page on Monday where I introduce the letter, we sing a letter F song and we talk about everything we can think of that starts with the letter F. Letter F is for; flag, fish, fruit, flowers, frog, football, five, four, faith, fork, fly & feather

I say to the kids "Let's pretend to be scientist and mix two colors together." "What do you think it will make blue and yellow together?"  They are all smart and say..."GREEN".  We talk about the last few colors we have made (yellow and red make-orange, blue and red make-purple).  We go outside to do this activity because it is a little messy and we sit out there for a good 10-15 minutes because the kids just love using the droppers, working in teams and being scientist mixing colors.

Here is our Letter F hiding game, I wonder if the children will ever get tired of it.  I hide the items, they find the items.  When they find the items we practice the sound fffffffffffffffff.
We worked hard all week and on Friday we needed a fun day.  So it was witch day, we read a witch story, we made witches brew and sang the witches brew song at least three times, we made cookie witch hats (ate one right away and took one home) and made witches hats.  A huge thank you to the two moms who came because there is no way I could have done these hats by myself. They have bows, stickers, sequin's, googly eyes, foam stars, and glitter.  They looked amazing and it was so fun to see how different they all were.

Here are the stories we read this week. And a few un-pictured highlights.
*We had wonderful snacks like-popcorn, capri suns, fish, fruit loops, juice, jack-o-lantern peaches and crackers.
* We are learning color songs for all the colors.

*We learned a new sightword-my
(running list-a, an, and, I , like, my)

*We played follow the leader during dance time and got our wiggles out.

*We are learning sign language for every letter A-F so far.

*We had circle time and we can recite the entire pledge of allegiance, count how many days we have been to preschool, sing two October songs, know the days of the week, talk about the weather and have some awesome show and tells.

Here is what we can look forward to next week; Halloween Fun and  A Halloween Party (I could use a few moms to come help from 10:30-11:30)-Let me Know.

There is NO SCHOOL Friday

The end of year program is scheduled for May 21st at the Centerville Library.

See you all for a Scary Week,
Miss Heidi

Columbus Day & Field Trip

Columbus Day and Field Trip
This week is Columbus Day, we made our three ships: The Nina, The Pinta and the Santa Maria.  We sang songs about Columbus.
We read a story about Columbus.
And we made edible ships.  Cucumber sails and deviled egg boats.
Our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch on Friday was the best.  We had a snack (pumpkin bread and apple slices), played in the hay maze, read a story called, "I like Pumpkins", talked a little bit about how Pumpkins grow, chose a pumpkin to take home, took lots of pictures with pumpkins,  friends,  and on tractors.  The weather was beautiful and it was simply the best day ever!
Our field trip was so much fun it got me thinking that this year we might try and do a few more field trips that we usually do.  I was thinking every two months we should take a field trip.  So I am looking for some ideas for December and February.  I have an idea for April and May...so share, shout them out, ideas anyone?
Have a great 4 day weekend!  I will see you all tomorrow for the Letter F, the color green and Frog Week.

Yay hoo!

Letter E Week

Letter E Week /Exercise Week & Color Purple
Alright lets get caught up here.  Letter E Week-on Monday, I introduce the Letter, we sing a song and make this page (uppercase E and lowercase e)

We play a Letter E game.  E is for Elf, Exercise, Elephant, Envelope, Eggs, Energizer Battery and Elmo. I hide the things and then the children get to find them.  We practice the letter E sound (two sounds-long/short) while we play the game.
On Wednesday we work on writing the letter E.  First we practice with little white boards and dry erase markers.  Then we practice on our alphabet page with crayons and pencils.  Because it is also exercise week, we also practiced all of the stretches on the paper.
One of our favorite things during the week is our food experience.  Letter E is tricky so I went with a healthy snack, something to eat after exercise.  We talked a lot about healthy food and junk food, since we read "The Bearenstein Bears and TOO MUCH JUNK FOOD" (it took us two days).
On Friday, our science experiment for the week was mixing the color purple.  I divided the class into teams of two, one person used the dropper to put blue in the bottle and the other person to use the dropper and put red in the jar.  What does it make?  Yep, purple.  Plus the droppers were great fine motor practice.

On Friday, we read the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and made a spider web art project.
These are the books we read this week.
One of the fun things we did for exercise week was dancing with rhythm sticks to a cd.  The songs give you instructions and movements to follow.  We did a movement song everyday for our exercise.

We had some great snacks for letter E as well, cheddar bunny crackers and capri suns, eclairs, crackers, fruit snacks and pretzel gold fish. This year more than any other year, the children are such good eaters and are really enjoying snack time.  Thank you for all the wonderful snacks.

It was another fabulous week!

Letter D Week Sept 30th-Oct 4th

Letter D Week and Dinosaur Week

On Monday, I almost always introduce the letter for the week both uppercase and lowercase, as well as its sound.  Lowercase d is for daisy (above).

And uppercase D is for Dinosaur (above).

This game is the Letter D game.  D is for daisy, doll, dolphin, dog, duck, dollar, dinosaur, Dora, dress and diamond.  I hide the items and then the kids get to find the items.
This is our alphabet page for Letter D, we color the D in the left hand corner, color the picture in the middle, practice the whole sign language alphabet and new letter....and then trace/write both uppercase and lowercase letter D's.  Whew!
For our food experience this week, we tried to make Dinosaur Fossil cookies using a Snickerdoodle recipe.  We flatten our dough ball and then used dinosaur action figures to make foot prints and body prints in our cookies.  Look close.....you can see T-Rex's feet prints!
We are very hard at work making a color book and this is our blue page.  We know a song and how to spell the colors; red, yellow, orange and blue.
And now its, October.  So Miss Heidi put away all the September stuff and apples.  She got out the October stuff and she needed help decorating the bulletin boards.  We made paper plate bats, I got the idea here : http://www.simpleasthatblog.com/2012/10/today-im-sharing-some-super-simple-last.html

These are the books about Dinosaurs that we read this week.

Some of the snacks we had this week were cheez its, bananas, candy corns, marshmallows, pretzels, poptarts and chocolate milk.  A huge thank you!

We played Duck, Duck, Goose during recess with Miss Heidi on the trampoline.

Miss Heidi broke the swing and landed on her ....pockets! Ouch!

We had a few tears saying good-bye to Mommies.

We had lots of singing and dancing. (During our one dance song we have started playing follow the leader, and you should see our dance moves)!

We still talk like Cookie Monster every time we sing the letter song.

We learned why Dinosaurs became extinct???

We started learning some spooky Halloween Songs. (Miss S, is soooo scared by my Halloween Music, she told me today).

Here are the sightwords we have learned--- a, an, and, I

Next week is all about the Letter E and the color purple.  The letter E is for Exercise!

Alright, over and out,
Miss Heidi
