Letter A Week

Letter A Week

Top 10 Highlights from Letter A Week
1.  Introducing Letter A and making letter A Alligators,
2.  Science Experiment on Absorption using; wax paper, paper towel, sponge, plastic bag, aluminum foil, napkin, construction paper, sock, cotton balls and a paper plate.  First we guessed what would absorb and what wouldn't, then we tested it out.  Most of our guesses were right.
3.  Singing Alligator songs like: 5 Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree
4.  Reading stories about Alligators
5.  Putting letters and sounds together to make the "at" word family
6.  Playing an Alligator game and learning facts about real Alligators
7.  Making Alligator cookies for our food experience.  I found the idea here: http://www.mymommystyle.com/2014/01/08/crocodile-nutter-butter-valentines/
8. Eating yummy letter A snacks like; apples, animal crackers, fudge stripe cookies and apple juice.
9.  Learning an Alligator poem and actions
10.  Apple stamping and handwriting big A and little a for our end of the year alphabet book!

It was such a fun week, school is now in full swing. We are having playtime, circle time (show and tell), snack time, story time, project time or seat work, recess, and then either music, science or a fun food experience.  We will start squeezing in more math in October after we get this routine down a little better.  This is a very smart and fun group of kids...I am so excited to be teaching again and back to my passion after a long summer.  I already love learning about your childrens strengths and personalities! They are picking things up so quickly and are very eager to learn.  I can tell its going to be another great year! Thanks for sharing your children with me:)
Till next time,
Miss Heidi
