October 8th-12th

So this week was all about "Columbus Day" and "Fire Safety".  It was such a great week.  We are having such a blast at preschool! Check out our busy week...

1.  We read "1492",  "Firefighters A-Z", and "A Day with Firefighters".
2.  We made a Columbus Day boat with our hands.
3.  We made Jello/Orange Boats for our food experience.
4.  We made 5 Little Firefighters with our hands.
5.  We made a Firetruck with our foot.
6.  We learned about fire.  Fire needs 2 things to burn (oxygen, fuel and heat).  When you take away those things, the fire will go out.  So we set 3 candles on fire.  On the first candle we put a cup over it (no air)-yep, it went out.  On the 2nd candle we squirted it with water (no heat), yep-it went out.  And on the 3rd candle with let the candle run out (no fuel), and it went out too.
7. We sang a lot of fire safety songs and 911 songs.
8. We also talked a lot about fire safety.
9. We counted smoke detectors.
10.  We practiced crawling underneath pretend smoke and getting to the door.
11.  We practiced dialing 9-1-1.  We talked about when it's an emergency and when it's not.
12. We played "The Fires Out".
13. We had yummy snacks; juice boxes, graham crackers and fruit snacks-Thanks Mr. M.  Also, string cheese, crackers and raisins-Thanks Mr. J.  And for the life of me I can't remember what I brought for my snack day...sorry-I guess its been a long week.  But, I know we liked it.

Like I said, it was a fabulous week! Next week is all about the letter "D", squares and Dinosaurs.  I know the calendar says "Dogs", but I reserve the right to change my mind at any given time.  The calendar is just a rough draft..you know!  And this months calendar is very rough.....and very error filled-my bad! Can't wait to see you all in the morning.

Oh, and by the way it is a 2 day school week, this week.  Thursday and Friday Davis School disctrict is out of school for Fall Recess.  So enjoy your 4 day weekend...coming up!

           Thanks for all you do,
                                            Miss Heidi
